91 Freeway Reopens Following Standoff With Armed Pursuit Suspect
CORONA (CBSLA.com) — A Beverly Hills man initially believed to be a suspected serial killer linked to seven Arizona deaths was taken into
custody Thursday in Corona following a pursuit and subsequent standoff with authorities.
Hector Vasquez, 43, was arrested following the early morning chase, which began on the 605 Freeway when officers attempted to stop Vasquez's vehicle for code violations, according to California Highway Patrol officers.
He was booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center at 7:38 a.m. for suspicion of driving under the influence of a drug, evading police officers, reckless driving and drawing or exhibiting a firearm
Bail was set at $100,000 and a Monday arraignment was set.
However, by Thursday afternoon Phoenix police had confirmed to City News Service that Vasquez was not their suspected serial killer.
"We have been in contact with California authorities and believe these incidents are unrelated," said Jonathan W. Howard of the Phoenix Police
Department.
