Armed Robbers Targeting Nail Salons In San Fernando Valley

VAN NUYS (CBSLA.com) — Armed robbers are targeting nail salons in the San Fernando Valley, according to Burbank and Los Angeles police.

Police delivered flyers and the warnings Wednesday to all 10 salons operating in Burbank.

"What we'd like to do is get all the information out there to the public to be aware," said Sgt. Darin Ryburn. "Also, to the business owners. Maybe (they should) provide a little bit more surveillance and cameras."

Nail Design in Van Nuys was robbed in March and July.

Another salon, on Magnolia Boulevard and Van Nuys, was hit on March 1 and Aug. 10.

In Burbank, the robberies happened on July 24 and July 27 on Victory Boulevard and San Fernando Boulevard.

According to detectives, all the robberies can be linked to the same three suspects, who are described as two black men and a black woman.

Police said the scenario in each incident was identical.

A woman walks into the salon by herself and asks a couple of questions. She's immediately followed in by a male suspect who flashes a gun. The two suspects rob the nail salon and everyone inside.

Then they run out of the store into an awaiting car, where a third suspect drives away.

Police confirmed there were no surveillance cameras at any of the businesses that were robbed.

"We're trying to inform all the other nail salons that if you don't have surveillance cameras, to put them in," said Ryburn.

One store owner told CBS2's Dave Lopez that he has installed security cameras as a precaution.
