Suspect Shoots Family Member, Arrested After Hours-Long Standoff In Norwalk
NORWALK (CBSLA) — A suspect involved in a domestic disturbance who shot and wounded a family member barricaded himself for about 3 1/2 hours in a home in Norwalk before surrendering, authorities said Thursday.
Deputies responded at 6:50 p.m. Wednesday to the disturbance in the 14500 block of Carmenita Road, between Rosecrans Avenue and the 5 Freeway, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Information Bureau.
The suspect shot a family member who was taken to a hospital and had stable vital signs, Lt. P. Chavez of the Norwalk Sheriff's Station said.
The sheriff's Norwalk Station reported an armed felony suspect was barricaded at the location and advised residents to remain indoors until the suspect was taken into custody.
The "incident began as a domestic dispute," deputies said.
Neighbors reported hearing what sounded like gunshots, according to a report from the scene.
About 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, the sheriff's department reported the suspect was in custody.
"Thanks to our crisis negotiators, the suspect has surrendered peacefully," according to a statement from the Norwalk Station.
