Arizona Police Shoot And Kill San Bernardino Man
SHOW LOW, Ariz. (AP) — Police in Show Low, Ariz., say a 27-year-old California man who tried to take an officer's gun and then pulled a knife has been shot and killed.
Michael McKelvey was pronounced dead at a hospital in the town about 150 miles northeast of Phoenix early Thursday. He most recently lived in San Bernardino.
Police Chief Jeffrey Smythe says the incident began when a convenience store was robbed at gunpoint late Wednesday. Witnesses were able to give detailed descriptions of three suspects and their car, including a specific neighborhood where the car drove.
Police found the suspect's car outside a home. Smythe says three officers were questioning four people inside when McKelvey assaulted them. One officer fired a shot and fatally wounded McKelvey.
The officers were placed on routine leave.
