Apartment Fire Displaces 6 In Lake Elsinore

LAKE ELSINORE (CBS) — Six people were displaced Tuesday when a faulty water heater sparked a fire at a seven-unit apartment building in Lake Elsinore.

The blaze broke out around 12:15 a.m. at 115 S. Springs St., according to Jody Hagemann of the Riverside County Fire Department.

Residents were safely evacuated before firefighters arrived, Hagemann said.

Some 35 firefighters contained the flames within 45 minutes to the attic, but three of the seven units were damaged, according to Hagemann.

Two people were evaluated for minor smoke inhalation, but were not taken to a hospital, Hagemann said.

The American Red Cross helped the displaced residents find a place to stay.
