Anthony Scaramucci Cancels Appearance At Pasadena's Politicon
PASADENA (CBSLA.com) – White House Communications Director Anthony Scaramucci will not be appearing at Politicon this weekend in Pasadena.
Organizers confirmed to CBS2 Friday that Scaramucci would not be attending in person. However, they said they were working on trying to have him participate in a different way, such as via Skype.
Just prior to the announcement, Politicon co-founder Simon Sidi had told CBS2 early Friday morning that he was still unsure if Scaramucci would attend. Scaramucci had signed up for Politicon long before being named communications director. He had been slated to take part in a Sunday afternoon panel with writer and journalist Touré.
"Who knows with these guys, we hope so, but, you never know," Sidi said.
Scaramucci was thrust into the political spotlight following a lively interview with The New Yorker published Thursday.
Politicon provided a statement that read in part:
"While Anthony Scaramucci decided to cancel his scheduled appearance at Politicon this year, the beauty of Politicon is that we have dozens of huge names that political junkies will love...At least now we don't have to worry about violating any local obscenity laws!"
In its third year, Politicon is billed as a "Comic-Con for political nerds" according to Sidi, a mashup of politics and entertainment.
Some of the big names scheduled to appear include Ann Coulter, Roger Stone, Chelsea Handler, Rob Reiner, Jake Tapper, Ben Shapiro, James Carville, Roy Wood Jr., Adam Carolla and Symone Sanders.
In 2016, Politicon had about 8,000 attendees. Sidi said organizers are expecting a much bigger turnout this year.
Politicon will take place Saturday and Sunday at the Pasadena Convention Center. Tickets are still available.
