Angels Trade Trumbo To Diamondbacks For Pitching Depth
ANAHEIM (CBSLA.com) — The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim have sent power-hitting first baseman Mark Trumbo to the Arizona Diamondbacks in a three-team deal with the Chicago White Sox.
In exchange for Trumbo, the Angels receive pitchers Hector Santiago and Tyler Skaggs, while Chicago receives outfielder Adam Eaton from Arizona.
Trumbo, who hit over 30 homers in each of his previous two seasons, batted .234 with 34 home runs and 100 RBIs in 2013, is expected to take over left field duties at Chase Field in Arizona, where Paul Goldschmidt has established himself as the primary first baseman.
The Angels, meanwhile, went through with the trade in hopes of acquiring pitching depth, which the team has desperately needed.
Santiago, 25, went 4-9 with Chicago in 2013 with a 3.56 ERA. Skaggs, a southern California native is a left-hander and former first-round pickup. He went 2-3 with a 5.12 ERA through seven starts for the Diamondbacks in 2013.
