Angels Prospect Gets The Call To The Big-Leagues

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) -- The Los Angeles Angels have released right-hander Brian Stokes and purchased the contract of catcher Hank Conger from Triple-A Salt Lake.

The moves were announced following Monday night's 3-2 loss to Cleveland.

Conger, who was named MVP of the All-Star Futures game at Angel Stadium in July after his three-run homer helped the U.S. beat the World squad, will be making his first trip to the major leagues.

 He was a first-round pick by the Angels in the 2006 draft.

Stokes was 0-0 with an 8.10 ERA. pitching 16 2-3 innings in 16 appearances with the Angels this season.

Other moves that will take effect Tuesday are the recall of infielders Kevin Frandsen and Mark Trumbo from Salt Lake, along with reliever Bobby Cassevah.
