Angelenos Celebrate 5th CicLAvia Amid Soaring Gas Prices
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Faced with a second day of gas prices hitting record highs, many Angelenos ditched their cars in celebration of Los Angeles' fifth CicLAvia.
Officials closed 9.1 miles of city streets beginning at 10 a.m. Sunday for the car-free block party, encouraging residents to walk, run, or bike.
The closure is impacting parts of Hollywood, Chinatown, Little Tokyo, South Los Angeles and Downtown. The event will end at 3 p.m.
Meantime, the price of a gallon of gasoline in Los Angeles rose three cents on Sunday to nearly $4.70, according to AAA. In the Orange County area, it was almost $4.69 and $4.67 in the Inland Empire and out in Ventura County, the price of a gallon went up to $4.68.
Jeffrey Spring, a spokesperson for AAA, says the gas prices are the result of "a perfect storm," with the Richmond refinery still recovering from a fire, a pipeline shut down in the Central Valley, as well as, last week's power outage at a Torrance refinery.
