Anaheim Woman Gets 6 Years In DUI Crash That Killed Sisters
SANTA ANA (AP) — A drunken driver who killed two women in a head-on freeway crash in Orange County has been sentenced to six years in state prison.
Prosecutors say 22-year-old Jessica Lynn Shekell of Anaheim was sentenced Wednesday. She pleaded guilty last year to vehicular manslaughter and other crimes.
Authorities say Shekell had been drinking with friends at bars in October 2009 before she drove her pickup truck the wrong way on State Route 91 in Anaheim. She hit another pickup head-on.
Forty-nine-year-old Sally Miguel and her 30-year-old sister, Patricia Miguel, were killed. Their nieces, 15-year-old Mary Miguel and 11-year-old Sara Miguel, were injured. The family was driving home to San Bernardino after an evening at Knott's Berry Farm.
Authorities say Shekell had a blood-alcohol level of .26 percent.
