Anaheim Woman, 36, Pleads Guilty In Fatal 2010 Stabbing Of Boyfriend
SANTA ANA (CBS) — A 36-year-old Anaheim woman pleaded guilty Wednesday to fatally stabbing her live-in boyfriend in 2010.
Corina Jo Castillo pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter with a sentencing enhancement for using a deadly weapon and was immediately sentenced to six years in prison, according to Deputy District Attorney Howard Gundy.
Orange County Superior Court Judge Robert Fitzgerald offered the plea deal to Castillo, who was arrested in June 2010.
She was initially charged with murder, but the charge was reduced to voluntary manslaughter based on further investigation that revealed Castillo and her 28-year-old boyfriend, Jesse James Foster, had a troubled relationship that included physical fights and drug use, the prosecutor said.
A message left with Castillo's attorney, Orange County Public Defender Frank Bittar, was not immediately returned.
Castillo and Foster were under the influence of narcotics when they got into an argument on June 17, 2010, in their apartment at 2215 W. Broadway, Gundy said.
"During mutual combat, she took a kitchen knife and stabbed him in the back," he said.
Foster left the apartment and stumbled down a flight of stairs before collapsing, Gundy said. Castillo ran away as neighbors called police.
Gundy originally sought a seven-year prison sentence.
