Anaheim Residents Hold Vigil For Victims Of Conn. Mass Shooting

ANAHEIM (CBSLA.com) — Anaheim was one of the many cities Monday night remembering last week's massacre that ended so many young lives at Sandy Hook Elementary School.

Residents held a vigil to mourn the 27 victims – 20 of them children – who were fatally shot Friday in Newtown, Conn.

"Anaheim is a place where so many kids come to believe in their dreams and spend time with their family, so we just really want to show Newtown we love and support them," Anaheim resident Meghan Shigo said.

Hundreds of people, many of them parents with young children, gathered on the steps of City Hall to light candles and pray.

"We'll always keep them in our hearts," Anaheim resident James Light said. "I can't fathom what they're going through; being a father of two kids, it's hit me kind of hard."

"It's just heartbreaking what happened to those little kids and those teachers, so I came here to show solidarity," city resident Elaine Younes said.

Even though temperatures dropped to the 50s people continued to come and stand in the cold together, to show their support for Newtown.

"It doesn't matter how cold it is out here. Everybody coming together, that's all that matters for those families that lost their kids," Anaheim mother Larhonda Penn said.

"I can't imagine what those families are going through, those were just babies. I wish I could just go there, go fly over there and hug each and every one of [the families]," resident Theresa Smith said.
