Anaheim Neighborhood Searched After Gang-Related Shooting
ANAHEIM (CBSLA.com) — A man has been detained in connection with a possible gang shooting that triggered the lockdown of a nearby elementary school.
An off-duty Irvine Police officer, who lives in the area, told Anaheim police he was out for a run in front of the Mariposa Apartments in the 200 block of South Rio when he witnessed shots being fired between a group of young men and another man in his 20s.
No injuries were reported from the apparently gang-related shooting, which happened just before 11 a.m.
Police are working to determine if the man they detained opened fire on two people, who were not hurt, Anaheim police Sgt. Daron Wyatt said.
The neighborhood cordoned off while police searched for the suspect. Rio Vista Elementary, at 310 N. Rio Vista St., was placed on a precautionary lockdown during the search, but police said students were not at risk.
