Anaheim Man Sentenced In Fatal Shooting Of Estranged Wife
SANTA ANA (CBSLA.com) — A man from Anaheim has been sentenced to 50 years to life in prison for the 2011 murder of his estranged wife.
Back in June, a jury found John Rand Agosta guilty of one felony count of murder in connection with the shooting death of his wife, Alejandra Hernandez.
Hernandez was shot nine times in the chest on June 16, 2011, after leaving her place of employment during a lunch break.
The 28-year-old victim worked at a pre-school in the Turtle Rock area in Irvine, according to a statement issued by the Orange County District Attorney's office.
After the shooting, the 37-year-old Agosta got back inside his Ford Mustang but was unable to start its engine, according to prosecutors.
He initially fled on foot, leaving the vehicle at the scene. He was later picked up by a friend, who was unaware of the shooting.
Hernandez was pronounced dead at the scene.
Prosecutors say two sisters of the victim and an aunt shared impact statements during Agosta's sentencing hearing on Friday in which they described Hernandez as a "person of peace and forgiveness."
