Anaheim Burglary Suspect Allegedly Caught On Video Now Behind Bars
ANAHEIM (CBSLA.com) — Police in Anaheim have just nabbed a burglary suspect they have been looking for the past two weeks.
KCAL9's Stacey Butler said at least one of his burglaries was caught on video and it's believed the clear images on the video led to the suspect's identification and capture.
The video first shows the suspect scaling a fence in the quiet Anaheim neighborhood on Oct. 24. in the 1200 block of N. Lighthouse Lane.
He is then shown inside the home. The suspect is shown stealing cash and taking camera equipment and other miscellaneous items.
Police said in this particular heist, he also drove off with the homeowner's silver Dodge 2004 pickup truck. They have recovered most of the loot they said, but the truck remains missing.
Anaheim Police on Thursday evening identified the suspect as 20-year-old Matthew Russell Kundrat, a resident of Anaheim.
They said he was arrested without incident during a traffic stop.
Butler spoke to residents of Anaheim Shores who said they were happy the suspect has been caught.
They said there have been a lot of reports of break-ins of later and they've seen more than their share of strangers in the neighborhood claiming to be selling magazines or home improvement projects going door-to-door.
She asked one neighbor if he felt safe.
"Right now? No," said the unidentified man. "Ten to 15 years ago ago, I would have said yes, this neighborhood is safe.
but at this point in time, this neighborhood's safety has been compromised."
Kundrat has been booked at the Anaheim Detention Facility for burglary and possession of stolen property. Statutory bail is around $50,000 but officials have made a request for an increased amount, police said.
Police said they are also trying to determine if Kundrat is responsible for additional crimes.
