Amber Heard Donates Entire $7M Divorce Settlement To Charity
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Actress Amber Heard wanted out of her marriage to Johnny Depp.
And she clearly didn't want a dime of his money.
Awarded $7 million in a settlement, Heard announced Thursday that she was giving it all away.
All of it.
The lucky recipients? The ACLU and Children's Hospital of Los Angeles.
In a statement, the 36-year-old former Mrs. Depp explained her motivation.
"As described in the restraining order and divorce settlement, money played no role for me personally and never has, except to the extent that I could donate it to charity and, in doing so, hopefully help those less able to defend themselves."
She added, "As reported in the media, the amount received in the divorce was $7 million and $7 million is being donated. This is over and above any funds that I have given away in the past and will continue to give away in the future."
She decided to split the $7 million equally between the ACLU (with an emphasis on stopping violence against women) and Children's Hospital of Los Angeles where she said she's done volunteer work for the past decade.
Both the ACLU and Children's Hospital were thankful for the donation.
"We are incredibly grateful that Ms. Heard has so very generously shown her support for the important and necessary advocacy for victims of domestic violence," said Anthony D. Romero, executive director of the ACLU. We could not be more thankful for Ms. Heard's support- she can be confident that this gift will help other women live safely and freely."
