Amazon Customers To Order 37M Items On Cyber Monday

SAN BERNARDINO (CBSLA.com) — Amazon customers will order nearly 37 million items worldwide Monday, which is a record-breaking 426 items per second, company officials said.

The National Retail Federation predicts 126.9 million (52.3 percent) shoppers plan to shop online on Cyber Monday.

Amazon used robots to help complete orders at some fulfillment centers. The machines can lift up to 750 pounds and are equipped with motion censors.

The robots, which travel between three and four mph, retrieve items when an order is placed and take them to employees to be sorted, packaged and shipped.

"Every holiday the hottest sellers are certainly toys and consumer electronics," Scott Stanzel of Amazon said.

The online retailer was also offering new deals every 10 minutes on items like tablets and TVs.

Over the weekend, 134 million people hit the stores over the four-day holiday weekend, down 5 percent from last year, the NRF said.
