Alleged Ear Gauge Assault Suspect Turns Himself In To Authorities

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — The alleged "Ear Gauge Stalker" turned himself in to authorities Friday morning.

Kevion Ray Hunt, 20, reportedly walked into the lobby of the San Fernando Police Station, with his mother, and said he wanted to surrender.

His mother also allegedly told officers she knew the police were looking for her son.

Hunt is accused of groping one woman and trying to remove the clothing of another within the same hour early Sunday morning in Sylmar.

"Detectives were writing a warrant for his arrest when we got the call this morning," said Detective Mike Brox, head of the Sexual Assault Unit. "We had been snooping around the neighborhood yesterday and showing the sketch."

Neighbors pointed detectives to an apartment complex on Beaver Street, across from the Mountain View Manor Apartments, where the assaults had occurred.  Several persons reportedly said Hunt matched a police artist sketch of the accused assault suspect.

Hunt has ear gauges, as described by eyewitnesses.  "When we compared the DMV photo to the sketch, it was hard to imagine a better match," Detective Brox recalled.

Authorities said they were ready to go to Hunt's home this morning -- to serve an arrest warrant -- but he beat them to the punch. "Funny thing was, detectives had not yet approached nor spoken to Hunt about the case," Detective Brox said.

Hunt was booked for attempted rape at LAPD Valley Regional Jail Section in Van Nuys. Bail was set at $100,000.
