Alleged Drunk Driver Strikes Vehicles, Power Pole In Van Nuys
VAN NUYS (CBSLA.com) — An alleged drunk driver Tuesday plowed an RV into 30 parked cars, a power pole and an apartment building in Van Nuys.
The man, who is about 50, lost control of the RV around 11:25 p.m. on Clark Street near Sepulveda Boulevard, police said.
Several residents were evacuated from the apartment building and inspectors arrived on scene to check the structure's integrity.
The car also slammed into a chain link fence, a masonry wall and several electronic boxes. Power was knocked out to traffic signals and several apartment complexes, affecting approximately 1,100 customers, according to the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power.
The DWP worked overnight to restore the power.
The suspect was taken to Sherman Oaks Hospital after complaining of pain, officials said. The investigation is ongoing.
