Alleged Drunk Driver Kills Man On 91 Freeway
BUENA PARK (CBS) — An alleged drunken driver plowed into a stalled car on the westbound Artesia (91) Freeway, killing the man in the stalled car Friday morning.
The man in his 20s was sitting in a silver Toyota Camry in the No. 1 lane with hazard lights on when a woman in her 20s, driving a black Volkswagen Jetta, struck his car at what authorities described as a high rate of speed at about 1:10 a.m., just east of Knott Avenue, California Highway Patrol Officer Brian Gonzalez said.
The man, whose name was not released pending notification of kin, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The woman and a man in the passenger seat were allegedly coming back from drinking at bars in Fullerton, officers said. She was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.
The freeway was backed up for miles while an investigation was conducted.
All lanes were closed for an unknown duration on the westbound Artesia (91) Freeway east of Knott Avenue.
