Alleged Cockfighting Operation Busted In Lancaster
LANCASTER (CBSLA.com) — Authorities say they've arrested two men and recovered 27 roosters while executing a search warrant at a home in unincorporated Lancaster.
A statement issued by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said the birds, a pound of marijuana, and several firearms were discovered at the home in the 48000 block of 105th Street East about 10 a.m. Thursday.
"The birds appeared to be in good shape, but had been prepped for fighting, by cutting their wattles and combs," the statement said.
The warrant was a result of a probe into alleged cockfighting on the property, said authorities, who added that two men were taken into custody for outstanding warrants unrelated to the search.
Those men were identified as 31-year-old Luis A. Juarez and 23 year-old Richard Aguirre, both of Lancaster.
Juarez was being held on a "no bail" warrant while Aguirre's bail was set at $31,000, according to authorities.
The statement said investigators were still seeking their primary suspects.
The Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) also responded to the scene and interviewed ten children but didn't place them in protective custody.
