All A Billboard? Commuter Train Cars Offer 'Cool' Ad Wraps To Cut Costs

The North County Transit District has allowed some of its trains on the Oceanside-to-San Diego route to sport ads that wrap entirely around the train cars.
"If you've ever seen a transit bus that's been wrapped in advertising, we take the same approach and apply that to a train car, so the entire car has been wrapped in the advertiser's theme, and gives it a really cool look," said North County Transit District spokesman Alex Wiggins.
Advertisements for Wells Fargo and some local health clinics began running in December.
And while the cars are open to the highest bidder, Wiggins said the county will uphold certain content restrictions.
"We stay away from anything of poor taste, and especially alcohol and tobacco ads are not eligible to participate in this program," he said.
The district hopes to collect as much as $200,000 from the program to offset public transportation costs.
