Alhambra Streets Remain Closed As Crews Work On 10-Foot Sinkhole
ALHAMBRA (CBSLA.com) — Several streets in Alhambra remained closed Tuesday as crews continue to work on a sinkhole at the intersection of Mission Road and Marguerita Avenue.
The sinkhole – about 10 feet in diameter and six inches deep – was reported about 3 p.m. Monday, Alhambra police Sgt. Jerry Johnson said. Its cause has not been determined.
Traffic was diverted while public works staff inspected the street and the Marguerita Avenue Bridge above the Union Pacific railroad tracks.
All northbound and southbound traffic over the Marguerita (railroad) bridge has been shut down while crews continue their assessment, police said, and eastbound lanes are closed on Mission from Marengo to Marguerita.
All southbound traffic on Electric will be directed westbound on Mission, and southbound Marguerita from Commonwealth to Mission is limited to residents only.
