LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — The brother of actress Salma Hayek was hospitalized Monday after being involved in a car crash that killed his passenger over the weekend.
The accident happened just before 5 p.m. Sunday on Sunset Boulevard at Mapleton Drive in the Beverly Crest area, the Los Angeles Police Department said.
Sami Hayek, a 40-year-old furniture designer, was driving a 2006 Ford GT eastbound on Sunset Boulevard when he lost control, crossed into westbound traffic and collided with a Toyota truck.
The passenger was identified as 43-year-old Ian Cuttler, a Grammy Award-winning art director and photographer, according the LA County Coroner's Office. The New York resident reportedly died at the scene after suffering blunt force trauma to his body.
Hayek broke several ribs and cut his head in the crash.
The 20-year-old driver of the truck sustained a broken foot and was transported to UCLA Medical Center along with Hayek.
