Actor Keith David Discusses 'Joe Turner's Come And Gone'

STUDIO CITY (CBSLA.com) —  Film, television and stage actor Keith David stopped by the KCAL studios to discuss his new play, "Joe Turner's Come and Gone" currently running at the Mark Taper Forum until June 9.

"Joe Turner's Come and Gone" is about Americans of African descent moving to the Northern industrial cities in search of new beginnings.

David plays Seth Holly, the owner and operator of a boarding house he has inherited from his father, a freed man. As people come and go, Holly worries that the place is seen as reputable amidst the ever-changing community of boarders.

Directed by Phylicia Rashad, the new play is part of the late playwright August Wilson's century cycle of plays depicting African American life in each decade of the 20th century.

"Joe Turner's Come and Gone" is set in 1911 Pittsburgh.

This is the first August Wilson play that the Mark Taper Forum has produced since the playwright passed away.

The Tony-nominated and Emmy award-winning David worked with Wilson previously on Broadway in "Seven Guitars".
