A preliminary 2.8-magnitude earthquake struck near Monterey Park Monday morning, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

It struck near the California State University Los Angeles campus at 10:04 a.m., with a depth of 9.8 kilometers, or 6 miles.

The USGS shows it could have been felt from Compton to Glendale and West Hollywood to Altadena.

In the summer months, a couple of rather significant earthquakes occurred in this Los Angeles County area. A 4.4-magnitude earthquake struck about 2.5 miles south of Highland Park in August and in June, a 3.5-magnitude quake with an epicenter in Pasadena struck.
