Cost: $12.95; discounts available for students, seniors, youth, military and groups. Free for children under 5 and museum members.

Opened at the end of 2008 to coincide with the Grammy Award's 50th anniversary, the museum highlights award-winning recording artists over the span of the Recording Academy's history. It's within the L.A. LIVE campus, within a block of the Nokia Theater, the Staples Center and the Los Angeles Convention Center.

In addition to hosting permanent and seasonal exhibits, the Grammy Museum also hold programs with musicians and music scholars who highlight specific iconic stars, creative movements, Q&A sessions with award-winning artists and documentary screenings.

The four-story complex includes the 200-seat Clive Davis Theater, a gallery of recording technology, and various interactive kiosks.

Current special exhibits include...

* Strange Kozmic Experience: A look at The Doors' Jim Morrison, Janis Joplin, and Jimi Hendrix -- three voices of their generation who died within months of each other in 1970-71. The exhibit celebrates their musical legacy in modern music and features several artifacts such as costumes, hand-written lyrics, instruments and other collectibles.

* Michael Jackson: A Musical Legacy: The exhibit serves as a follow-up to the earlier Michael Jackson: HIStyle exhibit, which opened in February 2009, and the temporary memorial display, erected just after the King of Pop's passing.

The museum also features one traveling exhibit, Instruments Of Art, bringing photos and samples of performances from the museum's downtown L.A. site to the San Gabriel Valley.
