99-Cent Stores Ad Mistakenly Congratulates The LA Kings On Their 'Sweep'
LOS ANGELES (CBS) —The New Jersey Devils probably have something to say about the ad on the back page of the Los Angeles Times Extra Section, congratulating the Los Angeles Kings on their 4-0 sweep.
Most of Los Angeles eagerly anticipated a sweep when the Kings, up 3-0, met up with the Devils at Staples Center for Game 4 of the Stanley Cup finals. After two scoreless periods, the Devils finally got on the board, scoring two goals on Jonathan Quick and beating the Kings 3-1, forcing a Game 5 in New Jersey.
On Thursday morning, however, looking at the back page of the Los Angeles Times Extra Section, you might think otherwise.
Two ads from the 99-cent store contained the mistake. One along the top congratulated the Kings on winning the Stanley Cup and joked that fans who missed a game could purchase a Game 7 ticket for just 99-cents each. At the bottom of the ad, the company added "just kidding."
On the bottom of the page, the company advertised brooms for just 99-cents each and said "Congratulations on your 4-0 Devil Sweep!"
Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Finals will be held Saturday night in Newark.
