Nearly Century-Old Auditorium At Franklin High School Drying Out After Flood
HIGHLAND PARK (CBS) — A nearly century-old auditorium at a school in Highland Park was drying out Sunday after being partially flooded in a construction accident.
The incident at Franklin High School was reported to authorities about 4:34 p.m. Saturday, according to Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department.
Fire investigators told CBS2 there was some plastic sheeting near the fire sprinklers that resulted in a build-up of heat which apparently set off the sprinklers.
"Fortunately for us, the school has a wonderful alarm system. We were able to come out within three or four minutes... but the damage was already done," said Capt. Gilbert Reyna of the Los Angeles City Fire Department on Saturday.
As much as five hundred gallons of water was released, he added.
Humphrey said firefighters cleared the water from the structure.
