Boat Explosion In Huntington Beach Leaves 8 Injured
HUNTINGTON BEACH (CBS) — Eight of nine people on board a boat were injured following some sort of explosion on the vessel.
The incident occurred about 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Peter's Landing Marina in Huntington Beach.
Bob Culhane with Huntington Beach Fire told CBS2 that the boat was mid-channel when it appeared to be having some issues and exploded, knocking several passengers into the water.
A retired Harbor Patrol officer, however, was nearby and coached some of the passengers off the boat and helped get the others out of the water.
Authorities confirmed that four people were transported to a trauma center and four others were taken to local hospitals. The extent of their injuries was unknown.
The ninth person on board the boat was uninjured.
Of the passengers on board, at least three were under the age of 18.
It was not immediately clear what type of boat was involved and what caused the explosion.
An investigation was ongoing.
