710 Freeway Reopened After Downed Power Lines Cause Crash
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Commuters on the 710 Freeway in the city of Commerce were brought to a standstill on Monday after a crash involving downed power lines closed the freeway.
All ten lanes were blocked in both directions at Washington Boulevard in Commerce after the crash at around 7:15 a.m., according to California Highway Patrol Officer Monica Posada.
A metal rod atop a trash truck was blamed for downing the cable lines just south of the Santa Ana (5) Freeway junction, ensnaring at least one large truck and several vehicles on the freeway.
The downed lines also sparked a small fire in some bushes just off the freeway.
No injuries were reported.
The crash knocked out power to local residents, prompting crews from Southern California Edison to be called to scene.
Lanes were closed for nearly 90 minutes before power was restored at about 8:51 a.m.
