Power Restored To SoCal Edison Customers In Long Beach
LONG BEACH (CBSLA.COM) — About 70 Southern California Edison customers in Downtown Long Beach were still without power Saturday morning as the power company scrambles to restore service following an underground vault explosion on Thursday.
SoCal Edison said Saturday morning it has switched 190 addition customers onto generator power -– reducing the total outages to 70 customers. At the height of the outages on Thursday, about 30,000 customers were without power.
As of 5 p.m. Saturday, SCE said power has been restored to all its customers -- some using temporary generators.
Customers who were in their third day without power used flashlights and candles to find their way around their houses, threw out spoiled frozen foods and keot their windows open to avoid overheating. SoCal Edison provided affected residents with flashlights, water and snacks at 8 a.m. this morning at Cesar Chavez Park.
This is the second Long Beach power outage in two weeks due to a vault explosion, adding to the frustration for many residents.
Customers who are transitioned from generator power to the underground network system can expect a short power outage of about 45 minutes, the power company said.
