7 Illegal Immigrant Students Get Themselves Arrested To Test President Obama
SAN BERNARDINO (AP) — Seven illegal immigrant students arrested in a Southern California street protest say they are now waiting to see if they will be deported in a test of the Obama administration's immigration policy.
Jonathan Perez, a 24-year-old communications student who will attend Pasadena City College this fall, says he was questioned by Immigration and Customs Enforcement Tuesday after the group was arrested in San Bernardino for blocking traffic.
He says the students were released 12 hours later and are being charged with unlawful assembly and failure to disperse.
Perez says the group blocked a road to show that immigration authorities are investigating students who come into contact with law enforcement for ostensibly minor violations.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement says officers chose not to detain the students but are still investigating.
