Crews Clean Up Oil Spill In Long Beach Harbor
LONG BEACH (CBS) — Clean up efforts were underway Tuesday after about 700 gallons of diesel fuel spilled into Long Beach harbor at the Tesoro Terminal.
The spill at Berth 84A occurred Monday night during an internal transfer from the tanker Aljalaa, the U.S. Coast Guard reported.
The spill was surrounded by about 5,000 feet of floating booms to contain it, while crews figured out how to suck or sop it up.
The Coast Guard, the California Department of Fish and Game, and the vessel's emergency response management company, established a unified command, and cleanup efforts began.
No wildlife problems were reported. Anyone seeing wildlife covered in oil was urged to call 1-(877) 823-6926.
