Police are asking the public for help to identify the driver who fled from the scene of a crash in Sherman Oaks in September, leaving a 63-year-old woman with severe injuries.

It happened back on Sept. 6 just before 6 p.m., when the woman was crossing Costello Avenue in a marked crosswalk, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. As she was in the middle of the street, she was hit by the driver of a black Hyundai sedan that made a left turn from Ventura Boulevard.

The collision sent the woman flying through the air, and caused the driver to briefly stop. Instead of getting out of their vehicle to help, however, they fled from the area heading southbound on Costello Avenue before turning westbound on Davana Terrace, police said.

The woman, who remains unidentified, was rushed to the hospital with severe injuries. Her current status is unknown.

Police released video of the crash on Wednesday, which can be viewed on their YouTube page

Anyone who knows more about the crash is urged to contact LAPD at (818) 644-8000.
