CHP: Man Not Wearing Seat Belt When He Was Killed In Crash Involving Semi On 605 Freeway
CERRITOS (CBSLA) — A 52-year-old Cerritos man was apparently not wearing his seat belt when he was killed early Tuesday in a crash involving two cars and a semi truck on the southbound 605 Freeway at Alondra in Cerritos.
The crash happened at about 3 a.m. in the three right lanes of the southbound 605 Freeway. Debris was seen scattered across lanes.
Traffic in the area was slowing as it approached a construction zone, but California Highway Patrol investigators say the driver of a Kia Soul did not slow down accordingly and rear-ended a Toyota Camry, which was driven into the rear end of a tractor trailer/semitrailer.
The driver of the Kia did not appear to be wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash, according to the CHP collision report. He suffered severe injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. His name was withheld pending notification of his family.
The Toyota's driver, identified as 68-year-old Manuel Guerrero of La Puente, suffered serious injuries and was taken to Long Beach Memorial Hospital. The truck driver, Ki Ho Baek, 57, of La Puente, was not injured.
Alcohol or drugs were not suspected in the crash, and no arrests were made.
Three right lanes of the southbound 605 were shut down for more than four hours, and reopened just before 7:30 a.m.
