REDLANDS (CBSLA.com) — Authorities in Redlands Thursday announced the arrest of six people in connection with the 2013 murder of an aspiring musician outside a nightclub and restaurant.
The Redlands Police Multiple Enforcement Team, with the assistance of Inland Valley SWAT – including Fontana, Colton and Rialto police - and Riverside County Sheriff's Department SWAT, served search warrants at locations in Rialto and Riverside.
Police arrested 27-year-old Anthony Artell Tolbert, of Rubidoux; 33-year-old Terryl Diamond Morris, of Riverside; 22-year-old Damar William Sowell, of Rubidoux; 21-year-old Jamaal Aaron Duncan, of Rubidoux; 26-year-old Vanessa Everlin Felix, of Rialto; and 20-year-old Taylor Morgan Jones, of Riverside.
Tolbert, Morris, Sowell and Duncan are charged with murder. Felix and Jones were arrested on charges of accessory to murder. Tolbert and Morris are being held at West Valley Detention Center. Felix is being held at Central Detention Center in San Bernardino. Jones is being held at Century Regional Detention Facility in Los Angeles.
Tolbert's bail was set at $3 million. Morris, Duncan and Sowell have bails set at $2 million each. Bail for both Felix and Jones is set at $250,000.
Authorities said that on Jan. 20, 2013 -- outside the now closed Cancun Bar and Grill nightclub -- 22-year-old Kevon Decatur, of Moreno Valley, was fatally shot following a confrontation with three men.
Decatur was taken to the ER at Loma Linda University Medical Center where he was declared dead.
The victim had performed earlier that evening at the Cancun.
Investigators learned that Decatur was confronted by three subjects outside of the club shortly after the club closed for the night. The three men and Decatur became involved in a verbal altercation.
Last month, detectives released surveillance video of the three suspects taken outside the Cancun club. The video showed the men and a white vehicle with large chrome rims. Detectives said the public gave them leads that led to the six arrests.
Anyone with additional information about the murder is asked to contact Detective Dominick Povero at (909) 798-7580 or Redlands Police Dispatch at (909) 798-7681.
