$500K Worth Of Cocaine Found Hidden In Refrigerated Shipping Container
LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Sixty-four pounds of cocaine worth more than half a million dollars were found hidden in the panels of an empty refrigerated container at the Los Angeles/Long Beach seaport complex, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
The stash was found Thursday morning during a routine enforcement operation by a CBP K-9 enforcement team. The dogs alerted to the front panel of the container, where officers found 20 bricks wrapped in plastic.
Officers cut open one of the bricks and found a white powdery substance that tested positive for cocaine, according to the CBP. The estimated street value of the cocaine is $585,000.
The container originated from El Salvador with stops in Guatemala and Mexico. It was returned to the terminal after cantaloupes to a distributor in California.
