5,000 Customers Lose Power In Los Feliz, Silver Lake

LOS FELIZ  (CBSLA.com)  —    About 5,000 customers were not feliz when they lost power Friday evening in Silver Lake and Los Feliz.

The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power reported the first outage in the area just after 2 p.m. At that time, three circuits went out and about 3,000 customers were affected.

By 7 p.m. the utility reported that all but around 120 had  their service restored.

Around  8:40 p.m., the DWP reported about 5,000 customers were without service in the same area.

Power was fully restored at 1:30 a.m. Saturday. The outage was due to an equipment failure on one of its circuits that caused a chain reaction issue, LADWP said.

CBS2 spoke to drivers Friday who said motoring through the area was dangerous.

"These traffic lights are off and because they are off, it's real challenging to see some of the vehicles, especially if there are no headlights because it got dark really quick. And it got the best of me," said Patrick Gregory of Atwater Village.

Edgar Hurtado got off the freeway and pulled over. He was driving with his son and didn't feel it was safe to go home.

"This dark is like crazy," Hurtado said. "A lot of people going back and forth and it's hard to see the people walking."
