Entertainment in the East Room
There are amazing free concerts held Sundays in the East Room and are open to the public. The East Room is an exact duplicate of the East Room in the White House right down to the smallest of details and the immense chandeliers. Coming up in September:
• 2 – Baritone Mark Palmer
• 9 – Soprano Adriana Morrison and Concert Pianist Rob Woyshner
• 16 – Concert pianist Michael Sellers
• 23 – British Brass Band
• 30 – Third Wheel, Karen Kantenwein
Marine One
Between 1961 and 1976 this helicopter served 4 Presidents and carried multiple Heads of State including Leonid Brezhnev and Anwar Sadat. You can climb aboard and transport yourself back in time to 1960 when a bird like this only cost a million dollars to make.
Birthplace
Not only is the house President Nixon was born in onsite, it is on the original site. It has never been moved, the library and grounds were built around it. Nearly all of the furnishings inside are original and used by the Nixon family (the stove in the kitchen is not original but is true to the era).
Watergate
For many years this was thought to be a watered down exhibit (no pun intended) , but three years ago with the cooperation of the National Archives this exhibit is now factual and impressive. You can even listen to the tapes online.
Pat Nixon
Behind every good man is a great woman, and the Nixons were no different. Did you know her name was Thelma? Me neither! There is so much to learn about this fascinating woman from her early life to her time as a Goodwill Ambassador to her historic trips abroad as First Lady.
