5 Fun Facts About The Anaheim White House

It isn't every day that a couple can say they were married in the White House. While Patricia Nixon (daughter of the late President Richard Nixon) was married in a Rose Garden wedding at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue and Lynda Baines Johnson (daughter of the late President Lyndon Johnson) exchanged her vows in the East Room of the White House (several children of earlier first families were also married at the White House), most children of U.S. Presidents have been married in other locations nationwide.

Even though it may not have the acclaim of the Eastern White House, Anaheim's White House is certainly known for some fun weddings of its own.

Plenty Of Space

The Anaheim White House can host up to 500 individuals at a time. With a beautiful west wing banquet room that can accommodate up to 200 visitors, it's a perfect place for a wedding. If the bride is looking for that special spot to throw her bouquet, there is the Romeo and Juliet Balcony awaiting her. A well-manicured east lawn is a great venue for a cocktail reception, while one of a dozen different private rooms can serve to host a rehearsal dinner and more.

A Long History

Today's Anaheim White House location certainly doesn't resemble its earlier origins. The national landmark, dating all the way back to its crafting by Dosithe Gervais in 1909, once sat in an orange grove. Even though the building has changed to a degree in appearance over the years, architects and ownership have done all they can to maintain as many historical features as possible. Of note, the main dining room's brick fireplace and many of the windows in the building have not changed over the decades.

High-Profile Guests

The Anaheim White House Restaurant has played host to a number of well-known figures over the years including former President Jimmy Carter, actor Danny DeVito and singer Andrea Bocelli.

Helping Others

Anaheim White House Restaurant, which features Northern Italian cuisine, is the only restaurant worldwide to serve 1,000 free dinners to homeless motel kids every evening (see more below).

Caterina's Club serves more than 1,800 low-income children a nutritionally-balanced meal of freshly made pasta and vegetables five nights a week, all year long. To date, more than 1 million meals have been served and rapidly counting. After taking stock of the rights of homeless families in the Anaheim area (motel kids), the Club started helping families in need, transferring them from motels to homes. So far, dozens and dozens of families have been housed.

Presidential Prestige

Different rooms of the facility are named after former Presidents. Among them: the George Washington Room, the Ronald Reagan Room, the Abraham Lincoln Room, the Franklin Roosevelt Room, the Thomas Jefferson Room, the Richard Nixon Room (Nixon was born in Orange County's Yorba Linda and is buried there), the George Bush Room and the John F. Kennedy Room.

Whether you're in the wedding mood or are just looking for a nice venue to eat at and tour, Orange County's Anaheim White House definitely takes the cake.
