5 Accused Of Torching Long Beach Man's RV After Beating Him To Death Plead Not Guilty

LONG BEACH (CBSLA.com) — Authorities said Thursday that five people accused in the beating death of a 60-year-old Long Beach man have pleaded not guilty.

The five are also accused of torching Thomas Taylor's RV after the beating.

Diana Sequen, 20; Jose Alfredo Zolorza, 19; David Romero, 28;  Jazmin Montanez, 35; and Anthony Joshua Paz, 21, were each arraigned on one count of murder.

The defendants appeared before Judge Laura Laesecke at the Los Angeles County Superior Court in Long Beach and their bail was set at $1 million.

Deputy District Attorney Rachel Hardiman said the five defendants would regularly frequent Taylor's RV.

At some point, Taylor allegedly told the five defendants he did not want them to return. On the evening of Jan. 27, the defendants allegedly went to Taylor's RV and allegedly beat him to death. They then set his RV on fire with his body inside, Hardiman said.

Following the incident, homicide detectives began an investigation and arrested the defendants several days later.

The defendants' next court date is scheduled for June 5 for a preliminary hearing setting in Department 1 of the Los Angeles County Superior Court.

If convicted, they each face a maximum sentence of 25 years to life in state prison.
