405 Freeway Reopens, Traffic Returns To Normal
LOS ANGELES (CBS) — The 405 Freeway reopened Sunday morning, more than 17 hours ahead of schedule.
Traffic remained light throughout the afternoon and evening, but the roadway was congested as usual during rush hour on Monday morning.
Construction crews worked non-stop to tear down massive pillars as part of a freeway-widening project, and the contractor will now receive roughly $300,000 for finishing the job early.
Some drivers enjoyed the light weekend traffic, while others said "Carmageddon" was over-hyped.
Several restaurants and businesses in West Los Angeles say they lost customers on Saturday and Sunday due to the closure.
Another freeway closure is scheduled in 11 months for additional construction.
