405 Freeway Reopens In Seal Beach Following Construction Accident

SEAL BEACH (CBSLA.com) — All lanes of the 405 Freeway were reopened Wednesday morning after a steel beam fell at a construction site.

The accident happened around 3 a.m. at the northbound connector to the San Gabriel River (605) Freeway, the California Highway Patrol said.

The entire freeway was closed for several hours, but the northbound lanes were reopened just after 7 a.m. and southbound lanes were reopened an hour later.

A construction worker in his 50s suffered head and leg injuries after falling 25 feet when the beam crashed.

His coworker, a 46-year-old man, was struck by the beam and suffered injuries to his stomach and chest.

Both men were transported to Long Beach Memorial Hospital in moderate condition.
