405 Freeway Lane Reductions Cause Delays On Westside
LOS ANGELES (CBS/AP) — It's not quite Carmageddon, but delays are expected as a 2.4-mile stretch of the northbound Interstate 405 through the Sepulveda Pass is shut down in phases for a weekend construction project.

[UPDATE: Metro officials said Saturday night that quick work by its crews means the northbound San Diego (405) Freeway has a third open lane and should be wide open as of sunrise Sunday. ]
Starting Friday night, the northbound freeway was reduced from five lanes to two between Montana Ave. and the Getty Center Dr. off-ramp in West Los Angeles.
The northbound lanes were closed entirely from 1 to 6 a.m. Saturday, and will be again from 2 to 7 a.m. Sunday and midnight to 5 a.m. Monday.
Alternate routes include Pacific Coast Highway; Sepulveda Blvd. through the Sepulveda Pass; the 101 Freeway through the Cahuenga Pass or the 5 Freeway.
Drivers may also take westbound Wilshire Blvd. to northbound Sepulveda Blvd. and enter the 405 Freeway at Skirball Center Dr.
All northbound freeway lanes and ramps are expected to reopen by the Monday morning commute. For a full list of closures, click here.
The 55-hour makeover is part of Metro's ongoing 10-mile widening and carpool project. The work has required two temporary weekend closures of the busy Interstate 405 — one in 2011 and another in 2012 — that became known as Carmageddon I and II.
