4 Killed When Truck Goes Off 101 Freeway, Plows Into Tree
VENTURA (CBS) — Authorities Saturday said four people, including an 11-year-old child, were killed in an early-morning crash on the 101 Freeway in Ventura County.
The accident, which happened about 3:30 a.m. Saturday, took place near Mussel Shoals.
According to authorities, a truck carrying the victims diverted off the freeway and struck a tree.
Three of the victims were pronounced dead at the scene and the fourth died at a hospital.
One other person was transported to a local hospital in critical condition, authorities said.
The victims have been identified as 53-year-old Phet Chansky, the driver; his 11-year-old son Eric, Holly Hamm, 40, a front seat passenger and Monica Sara Sang, 40, of Long Beach.
The other three deceased all hailed from Lakewood.
The critical patient is another Chansky's son, described as a juvenile. Late Saturday, the boy's condition was upgraded. He is expected to make a full recovery. He reportedly has a broken arm.
