4.4-Magnitude Quake Strikes East Of San Diego
BRAWLEY (AP) — A series of small earthquakes has shaken an area of rural southeastern California.
The U.S. Geological Survey says a quake with a preliminary magnitude of 4.4 occurred four miles north of Brawley at 11:16 a.m. Wednesday.
Many other smaller tremors have occurred in the vicinity since about 1 a.m., including magnitudes 3.9, 3.7 and 3.4.
Brawley is in Imperial County, about 125 miles east of San Diego. Its population is about 25,000.
The USGS' Web-based community reporting system indicates the quakes have only been felt locally.
The region just north of the U.S.-Mexico border has had many earthquakes since a magnitude-7.2 quake in northern Baja California on April 4.
