$3M In Heroin Found After Standoff At San Bernardino Home

SAN BERNARDINO  (AP) — Police have found $3 million worth of heroin inside a San Bernardino home where a man was barricaded after firing a weapon in his front yard.

Investigators say a neighbor called police Monday night because 33-year-old Frank Javier Cardona was firing a weapon in his front yard. Cardona went inside the house by the time officers arrived and there was a 45-minute standoff before he was arrested by a SWAT team.

The Riverside Press-Enterprise says a search of the home uncovered 76 pounds of black-tar heroin packaged for sale. Narcotics investigators estimate the street value at $3 million.

Cardona has been booked for investigation of possession of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance for sale and possession of a firearm. Bail is set at more than $2 million.
