340-Ton Boulder Makes Pit Stop On Its Way To LACMA

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — A 340-ton boulder is making a pit stop at Figueroa and Florence on its way to LACMA, where it will become part of an abstract art exhibit.

The two-story-tall megalith, which is nearly done with its 11-night journey from a quarry in Riverside County, is scheduled to arrive at LACMA on Saturday morning.

Several street closures have been in effect as workers have temporarily taken down street lights to make way for the rock, which will be part of the permanent exhibit "Levitated Mass."

The boulder will now travel west on Adams Boulevard, north on Western Avenue, west on Wilshire Boulevard, north on Fairfax and east around the block on Sixth Street to its permanent home on the museum's north lawn.
