3 RivCo Schools Locked Down As 'Preventive Measures'
MORENO VALLEY (CBSLA.com) — Three Riverside County schools were briefly locked down early Monday as preventive measures.
Sugar Hill Elementary School in Moreno Valley was placed on lockdown around 8:30 a.m. while police searched for a car thief in the area.
Students were forced to stay in their classrooms for more than an hour.
"There were some kids inside classrooms crying," a boy told KCAL9's Louisa Hodge.
Student Alyssa Lugo said, "I was just thinking about what happened to the other school (in Connecticut). I was like, 'Are we safe here?'"
Honey Hollow Elementary, also in Moreno Valley, was temporarily closed around 10:30 a.m. because of a burglary at a nearby home.
Lastly, Noli Indian High School on the Soboba Indian Reservation in San Jacinto was locked down after people reported hearing gunshots.
A tribal information officer said the entire reservation was actually on lockdown.
He said the shots were fired on parts of the reservation where there are shooting ranges.
All of the schools reopened once deputies deemed them safe.
